Material Certification and Lot specific information

Ability for Material Certs to be added to a lot of material and have that certification carry with that material to where ever it is used.  This cert should be able to print with the packlist.  Additionally allow a material_location record to have user defined custom fields so that material lots can contain specifics.

My thoughts were that when material is received and lot controlled, you could attach a document associated with that material/lot (either during receiving or in the Materials or Raw Stock module). This would be similar to the "Attachments/Links" available in the extended descriptions pop up window.

When a job is created and the "Certification Required" check box is checked on the Materials tab, the attachments associated with the material picked to the job would link up. When shipping off the job, the packslip would be created and when printed, it would also print the associated material certifications that were linked to the job via the material attachments. The same could happen if shipping off a sales order, but the finished goods would probably have to be lot controlled as well to keep the link between the finished goods, the job, and the raw materials used.

I agree that the "Material" tab where all the materials issued to that job should have a hyperlink to each cert.

    This was not me.

Rough vision on how cert visibility/traceability might work - less clue where some of these features might be best located/structured...

Certainly as a starting place, I would expect to be able to find a part...look at the job for the date in question...and see what material certs were used in its production. And any combination of that. OCR text from a scanned document? Great! As long as the scanned document can be viewed in case OCR gets it wrong. Many documents we get have been rescanned 6+ times and look like they've been dragged behind the truck. On second thought, unless the data scaping is absolutely bulletproof, it may be more headache than its worth.

In addition, often a single shipment of material from a supplier will contain multiple Mill Heat numbers within a single "Cert" which need to be tracked...and almost always a job will span a single shipment of material. Typical: A 50 piece run...10 of those pieces are going to use material from shipment A received 6 months ago and the balance is coming from shipment B last week. Both Shipment A & B have their own set of Mill Heat numbers (depending on the supplier, they may have a Supplier Cert #).

When defining the Part Details for a quote, the Material section has a checkbox for 'Certification Required' - I'm not sure the mechanism for ensuring completeness downstream, but seems like that would require at least 1 cert to be logged.

In our case, we must identify/list the cert numbers (material & any special processes) on a document...as well as printed copies of each cert...included with the shipped parts. It sounds like Danny Hogge (below) is on the right track w the Lot Number - I would simply add it's usually multiple documents with any given Lot.

Just adding my wish to see this happen. We also have to keep certs separate and manually link them up for shipments.

I would say one "Material" tab where all the materials issued to that job can have a hyperlink to each cert. There may be multiple issues (and certs) for one material. Ex: 2.0 Round 1018 CD could have an issue of 2.6' lot# A4567 and 1.9' lot# 100R22.

    Hello Robert,

This sounds like a good idea, but I do not remember sending this in?
Unless you can send me a copy of my e-mail on this.

@Robert - I would expect there to be a tab where the document can be viewed/printed as desired. The Lot number is stored forever already once it has been picked, issued, etc.. I don't see why the associated cert couldn't be tied to it as well.

I need some more details on this one. Lets say I have the material in stock. Would you expect there to be a tab or something that could be clicked to access the actual scanned document? Or maybe information scraped from the document and put into a searchable data table? And if the material gets issued to a job, would you expect to see the information on a tab? What if there are multiple materials with certs? A tab for each material? Or maybe a list view with hyperlinks to the certs? How does this manifest?

This would be a huge help. We have to store our certs. externally and print them manually for each packing slip.

This would be very useful for us also. I would like to add when doing a "Customer Shipments - Sales Orders" that it would add the lot numbers on the packlist. We have customers that require this.

I really would like to see this too. Seems like the lot controlled checkbox in raw materials only makes the lot number a required field when issuing material.

Any updates on this? I just recently started at a new company that uses Jobboss and this would be extremely helpful.
