Our production generates some high value byproducts/ by-products/ co-products (whatever name you wish to give them). JobBOSS can only directly handle one product type being made by a job.
At present we cannot use 'actual' costing as these byproducts cannot be incorporated into the job and as a result the costs of the primary product would get over-estimated without seeing the byproduct credit from WIP. We are forced to generate the byproducts by manual transactions which cannot be tied back to the source job so built in costing reports cannot work accurately for us.
Our previous MRP system (SAP) achieved this handling by allowing negative quantities of material to be added to the BOM (to allow more accurate quotations from a template job) and for the byproduct to be generated itself by the equivalent of a negative transaction in Pick Material.
This is not currently possible in JobBOSS as a requirement is built in to the Pick Material form that means you cannot 'negative pick' more material out of a job than had already been picked into the job.
If JobBOSS could incorporate the same methodology, it would be able to handle byproducts immediately, allowing significantly improved costing. Negative requirement qty would credit material costs from a job in the same way positive requirement qty currently adds material cost into a job.
Our byproducts can credit back 10-20% of our job costs so this is not a trivial amount (we can re-melt/re-process some of our offcuts etc which provides another stream of raw material/supply for further production jobs).
This would appear a very low-risk change, but perhaps it could be toggled on/off in the System Administration> Preferences menus to allow users that don't have byproducts to carry on in current format.
